Outward Bound at Laches Wood
At the end of the summer term Year 3 and 4 children went away for the weekend to Laches Wood Outdoor Education Centre accompanied by Mrs Naylor and Mrs Kinman. The pupils enjoyed many activities such as climbing, "tunnelling", canoeing, archery and shelter building. The children, aged 8 and 9, had a fantastic time and not only gained new skills but learnt a lot about teamwork and being away from home.

Hand in Glove: Puppet Workshop
Class 2 have been busy making puppets as part of a Design and Technology unit. The children had to design their own puppet, sew the two pieces of fabric together and then add the features by using collage materials. We would like to thank Mrs Allen for her expert help with the sewing.

Sports Day Success
Sports Day looked different this year, with the pupils competing in teams spanning all years. Congratulations to the Red Team who won the overall competition. As you can see in the photos the children all had a great time. Photos taken by Morag Johnson: if you would like a copy of any of these just ask Morag.
Sun Shines on Summer Fair
The sun shone brightly on Henry Prince School's annual Summer Fair, which took place on Saturday, June 26.
Top quality meat from Ashbourne butcher Nigel made the barbeque a great success, and for those wanting something cooler there were ice-creams and other refreshments.
One of the most popular events was the "Beat the Goalie" competition, with young and old trying to to prove their superiority. For the less energetic the plant stall once again proved popular, as did the delicious home-made cakes, the face painting and the children's goodie-filled jam jars. But perhaps the children's overall favourite was the JCB digger. They climbed all over this and each came away with a poster.
The Henry Prince PTFA (Parents, Teachers and Friends Association) would like to thank everyone who supported the event, not least all the local businesses and individuals who donated prizes, including Avanti Jewellers, Kays, Derby County FC, Bennetts (Ashbourne) and The Rose and Crown. "We were especially pleased by the number of Mayfield villagers who came along" said PTFA chair Nicky Taylor-Smith "as we are such a small school their presence really makes a difference".
Headteacher Mrs Naylor commented "I was very impressed with the support we were given by the local community. I would like to thank everyone for giving so generously and the PTFA for organising a very successful event. The children are looking forward to having the new play equipment in September."
After expenses, the event raised £433 which will go towards outdoor play equipment and library books.
